Pre-Teach: No
Focus: Internal
Purpose: To warm up the body through slow lubricating movements of the joints.
First move: waves. Stay on the spot, and if it’s available to you, you can close your eyes. Listen to the song. It’s soft, smooth and gentle.
When you are ready, gently start to create waves somewhere in your body.
It can be waving your arms, your spine, your fingers, your chest – you can pick any body part.
You can’t get it wrong – simply think about what a wave looks like and play with that movement in your body.
It can be small waves or big waves.
Allowing one move to flow into the next one.
Have you added your head yet?
How softly can you dance it?
Make it feel really good, like you are massaging your body with your dance.
How can you explore different ways of waving?
Have you tried waving through the spine yet? It can be side to side or front to back. All the way from the tailbone to the head.
Maybe you can explore how your hips can wave?
Have you tried waving with your entire body? Allowing every single body part to be involved.
Let the music inspire how you dance.
Infuse it with your breath.
You can use your levels too as you dance and explore the space around you – there’s above you, below you, to the sides, behind you.
Have you tried waving through your arms? Let your dance be soft, flowing and fluid. Dance your waves.
And remember, no one can do it like you – trust your own dance and express it in YOUR own unique way. That’s beauty.
