Purpose: To explore freestyle grooving
Pre-Teach: twice in this song I’m gonna yell out ‘free style’ which simply means that you get to dance whatever you feel like. Give yourself permission to follow the music and dance your own dance – be as wild as you want and allow yourself to dance without censoring yourself.
First move: soft tribal stomp. Connect your feet to the beat: 1-2, 1-2, stomp-stomp, stomp-stomp.
Start to travel with your soft stomp. This groove is internal – like a moving meditation – you don’t have to interact with anyone.
You can move sideways, backwards, you can turn – dance your way through the space with your soft stomp.
Can you add your arms?
Give yourself permission to hum or sing along – let your voice dance too.
Is your head moving?
Have you tried using your levels?
Let your whole body dance it!
This song is soulful, tribal and grounded. How can you add that to your dance?
Have you tried moving your chest? Maybe back and forth? To the sides?
No one cares what it looks like – make it feel good!
Allow yourself to be raw, authentic and DANCE it your way.
Second move: freestyle. Now you get to freestyle! Listen to the beat and dance your own dance! Don’t worry about what it looks like – just let your body DANCE!
(In this part of the song you’ll have to observe alot without them noticing. If you see people looking intimidated and afraid to express themselves, make sure to give them options on different body parts they can move. Also empower them with groove truths and really important is that you need to really go there and show them full expression yourself).
