Coaching Notes:

Pre-Teach: No
Focus: External
Purpose: To create connection and interaction on the dance floor
First move: walk. Start by walking to the beat – 1-2, 1-2. Let your steps be soft, gentle and light, and see if you can add a little bounce to your walk. Start to explore the room by dancing your walk in different directions: backwards, sideways and lots of turning. Light, soft and bouncy. Since we are still warming up our body, see how you can move your joints in a nice and lubricating way. You can stretch and yawn, you can roll your shoulders, you can move your hips or your head as you walk. What else can you do to warm up as you dance walk? As you dance through the room, start to look up and notice the people you are dancing with. Maybe you can smile at the people you pass? This song is light and carefree – how can you let that inspire your dance? How can you dance it with your whole body? Is there any part of your body you haven’t moved yet? Can you explore the levels as you dance? Bending your knees more or coming up on your toes once in a while? Have you tried smiling to a fellow groover yet? You could also give yourself a nice hug while you dance. Can you involve your chest and spine in your dance? Can you add your arms and hands as you walk? Let your movements be soft, flowing and relaxed. Remember you can’t get it wrong. What can you do right now to make your dance walk feel yummy? Feel free to explore all corners of the dance floor, dancing into the open spaces and playing with the different directions. Give yourself permission to dance it YOUR way – simply listen to the song and dance and express it in a way that feels good to you.

Second move: bow or curtsy. Turn to the person next to you and bow or curtsy. Look them in eyes, smile or show in your own way that you are present with them. Now find someone new and bow or curtsy. You can do this in any style and form – you choose how you do it, but give that person in front of you all of your attention. Keep moving through the space and greet and welcome people. You can try doing it a little differently every time. Every time you’ve greeted someone, walk on and find someone new to meet and greet. Dance it in your own way. How can you dance your bows or curtsies in your own unique way?
