Purpose: To practice slow, lyrical and expressive movements that are not dependent on the beat.

This is a beautiful, expressive creative functional training – the conductor song.
You set the scene by telling them they are about to give the concert of their lives, with the best, most beautiful orchestra ever.
They will be conducting the orchestra throughout the whole song.
Start them out by having them move their hands and arms in soft, elegant movements, like a conductor.
Allow the head to move as well. Slowly you incorporate more and more of the body into the dance.
You want to give them lots of options to be creative as they conduct: play with the rhythm, quicks and slows, use the space around them.
Use their levels, allow their face to express the music as well, travel slowly as they conduct, play with balances, use the floor.

Keep them connected to the style and essence of the song throughout the Groove using the style words: soft, passionate, dramatic, intense, elegant, expressive.
Tell them to listen to the song and let the music inspire how they conduct.
And don’t forget to use the word dance – have them dance their conducting.
