Coaching Notes:

Pre-Teach: The run-4-kick-2
Focus: External
Purpose: To increase heart rate

Pre-teach: ‘Try this little combo with me a few times: you run 4 steps, then kick twice. So it goes: 1-2-3-4-kick-kick, again and this time dance as you run and play with the height and directions of the kicks.’

First Move: Is a knee drop. Start your participants out on the spot, alternating dropping one knee towards the floor. The rhythm is quite fast, so count them in and tell them to keep it small to stay with the rhythm. Then invite them into the style: it’s rock, energetic and with lots of attitude and confidence! Have them explore both dancing OTS and travelling as they knee drop. Invite the upper body as well and ask how their arm, head and shoulders can move as they drop the knees.

Be aware that the move changes in intensity when the music does – so as the intensity goes down, tell you people to make it a bit smaller and softer.

Second move: Is the combo. This too is fast, and throughout the song you can tell your groovers to pace themselves if they need a break.
Count them in: ‘1-2-3-4-kick-kick, now show me how you dance it your own way! Personality and attitude! Explore the room, and explore direction.
Can you turn it as you run? Maybe a little rock-80’s-style as you do the kicks? What about your arms? Can you make your hair dance?’
