Coaching Notes:

Pre-Teach: Yes, the eye gazing
Focus: External
Purpose: To connect with each other through eye contact only

Pre-teach: The eye gaze. In this song we are gonna connect with each other through eye gazing. As we walk to the beat, we’ll look at each other as we pass each other. Super important is, you don’t have to smile: let your face be relaxed, flat even. Don’t connect through smiling, connect through your eyes.
So just start to walk around so you can try it – and as you pass someone, look at them briefly in the eyes, then walk away. Now as we move through the song I want you to play with elongating the gaze a bit – just a little longer. You can even walk around with the person for a bit.

First move: Tempo-walk/ eye gaze /slow walk. Start to walk to the beat: flat face, no smiling, no dancing. Just an intense, focused walk.
Can you explore your directions? Move sideways? Backwards? Turn maybe?
Now start to eye gaze as you pass someone. Remember, no smiling. Give yourself permission to have no facial expression at all.
Move in to the open spaces.
Have you tried holding the gaze for a little longer? Try it out. If it feels a little awkward that’s okay to – remember you can’t get it wrong on this dance floor. Explore YOUR way.
Now try to slow it down once in a while to the rhythm: slow, slow, slow, slow. It can be just for one or two steps, or even longer. Listen to the music and let it guide you. You decide when you want to add the slow.
Someone you haven’t connected with yet?
Can you give yourself permission to not smile?
Have you tried turning?
Have you tried walking slow yet?
What happens if you stay with the eye gaze a little longer?
Let your walking be intense, focused & serious.

*** it’s also a possibility that you as the facilitator can choose to unite people in the tempo walk at the end.
