Pre-Teach: Yes, only the combo
Focus: Internal
Purpose: To increase joint mobility through exploring transitioning poses
This is a beautiful song that combines creative functional training with a travel pattern choreo-combo. It’s an internal song that is soft, flowy and expressive.
Pre-teach: Tell them to reach four times, then walk 2 slows and 4 quicks. Try it a few times with them, and coach for reaching in different directions and playing with expression as they walk.
First move: Namaste & Sculpture. Start by opening your arms and as you let your hands meet in Namaste (or prayer position, up to you what you call it) you create a sculpture-like pose. You pause.
Then you open your arms again and transition into a new sculpture with your Namaste.
When you facilitate this part, you want to emphasize that is slow. Take time to slowly move from one sculpture to the next. Guide them into new transitions and sculptures every time.
Coach on levels, balances and engaging different body parts into the move.
Infuse it with breath, and encourage with groove truths.
Second move: Four arms, walk 2 slow, 4 quick. You reach four times with your arms, then walk two slow steps, and four quick.
Repeat until people are successful, then start to coach for reaching somewhere new every time and to add their arms as they walk as well.
Have them travel the room with this combo, expressing it and making their whole body dance it.
Coach for levels, turning as they walk and to let their arms dance and express this with intensity and elegance.
Note that you do not have to pre-teach this song. Even though there’s a bit of a combo you have time to teach it as the song plays since it quite long.
Second time the Namaste & sculpture move comes, you stay with it even when the beat kicks back in. You stay with the slow tempo and go back into the choreo-combo when the chorus comes back. Follow the time codes below.
