Pre-Teach: Yes – Run & Hip combo.
Focus: External
Purpose: To explore the feeling of confidence through dance.
Pre-Teach: – Run & hip combo. Have them do it with you as you count them in. Cue the hip movement as a little twist with the feet
together and tell them to come up on their toes as they twist. Have them do it with you a few times so they get the combo.
First move: Moving poses. Give me a strong, confident pose. But add some elegance and poise to it. Keep your arms and body
moving right into the next pose. Play with a tiny bit of arrogance in your expression. Chin and chest up and keep transitioning
into the next pose. Framing your body and face with your arms. Explore the feel of flamenco dance with your chest high and
lots of power and energy in the arms. There’s a sense of pride in your expression.
Second move: Run & Hip combo. Run for 4 and cue the hip twice. If you have clothing you want to play with, it can add to the
flamenco dance feel.
Really pop that hip up and up. Keep your run soft and gentle, and travel the room. Explore all your directions and make sure you turn
it once in a while. You can play with adding your arms as you run, and as you twist your hip show me how your arms can dance
it as well. Don’t overthink it, just give yourself permission to dance it your own way. Remember – your way is the right way!
This is your interpretation of flamenco dance.
Third move: Soft run. Just connect to the rhythm and run, soft and light. Explore the whole space with lots of turning.
Keep your chin up and your chest open and allow your arms to dance as well as you run. Confident and elegant! You can’t get it
wrong, just make it feel good in your body.
