Pre-Teach: Yes
Focus: External
Purpose: To increase heart rate and activate the vestibular system
Pre-Teach: In this song we are going to activate our vestibular system through turning, so let’s try that together. A good way to avoid dizziness is to find a spot on the wall that you focus on as you are turning. Try it with me: first we are gonna do a light run for: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 – then stay on the spot and turn for 8 counts. You can turn once or twice depending on how dizzy you get.
This should feel fun and playful – if you get too dizzy, take a break.
First move: Hands & Arms. Start to roll your wrists in a flamenco-like manner. Try rolling them both ways. Chest high and shoulders back. Express your posture and dance with confidence, passion and attitude.
Start to move your arms as well – all around your body, so you are decorating the space around you with your hands and arms.
Have you tried rolling your wrists both ways?
How can you dance your arms? Behind you, above you, below you, to the sides.
Can you dance it with confidence? Can you dance it with poise?
Allow your fingers to dance and move as you roll your wrists.
Strong and powerful arms.
Give yourself permission to dance it with a little arrogance and drama. Express it YOUR way. Doesn’t matter if you know how to dance flamenco – just explore the style of the dance in your own way. Can’t get it wrong.
Second move: Heel-stomp. Bend your knees, lift up your chest and stomp your heels to the beat.
Stay with the flamenco feel – confident, proud, passionate.
Stomp faster with the music!
Add your arms if you want to. Faster!
Third move: Light run for 8, turn OTS for 8. Now run 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and turn 2,3,4,5,6,7,8. Stay focused on one spot on the wall for more control. Now run again – explore the room and different directions, and now try turning the other way.
As you run, lift up your arms and let them move and dance – you can spread them out to the sides as you turn.
How can you add poise to your dance?
Can you stay light on your feet as you run? Show me how you add your arms in a flamenco-like manner – proud and confident. Dance your turns in your own unique way.
Have you tried running sideways or backwards? Have you tried turning both ways?
Is there somewhere in the room you haven’t been yet?
Fourth move: Walk. Now walk to the beat – confident, passionate and focused. Add your arms again and let them move around your body as you walk.
Can you change directions?
Can you turn as you walk?
How can you add the flamenco style to your walk?
Dance it your way! You can only get it right!
