Pre-Teach: No
Focus: External
Purpose: To explore a more theatrical expression and create fun interactions on the dance floor
First move: Snap. Listen to the song and start to connect to the snapping sound. You can snap with one hand or two or mix it up.
See if you can travel as you snap. Your dance is cool, confident, slinky and a little flirty.
Can your shoulders move as you dance?
Maybe you can snap somewhere new – explore the space around your body.
What about your head? Maybe looking over the shoulder once in a while? Maybe a wink to one of your fellow groovers?
Can you explore your levels with your snap?
Have you tried moving backwards? Or sideways?
What would it feel like to give yourself permission to be slinky and flirty in your dance? No one is here to judge you – we are all rooting for each other on the groove dance floor. Dance it your way and give it some sass!
Second move: 123-Paw. Next move goes like this: 123-make a paw with your hand or hands: 123-paw, 123-paw. Channel your inner cat and show me how you can make your paws dance in cute, slinky and sassy ways.
Allow yourself to be playful as you dance it.
Can you paw somewhere new every time?
Can you paw at or with somebody?
Travel the room as you dance it – exploring how you turn and explore your directions as you do so.
Can your head dance as well?
Is it possible to get your whole body dancing it?
Sing along if you know it!
How can you add some sass to your dance?
Third move: Slow Slinky Walk. Slow it all the way down, and start to walk slowly through the room. A slow slinky dance walk. Allow yourself to keep the playfulness in your body and explore how you can let your arms and hands move with it in cat like movements.
Can your paws move too?
What about your tail?
Have you tried using the walls?
Is it possible to get your shoulders and rib cage dancing too?
Slow. Slinky. Sassy. Confident.
How can you dance your slow walk with confidence? Allow yourself to express it and dance it your way.
What does your facial expression look like right now? Can you make it part of your dance?
Fourth move: Peppy walk. Now start to walk and put some PEP in your step! Arms in the air and let them pump towards the sky.
Let’s go to church!
Give yourself permission to be a bit wild and let loose!
Use the whole dance floor and dance with your fellow groovers.
Put a big fat smile on your face!
Can your head move?
How much energy can you put into your dance?
Have a party in your body and do it YOUR way! You can’t get it wrong!!
