Coaching Notes:

Pre-Teach: All three moves. Focus: External Purpose: To explore functional movement patterns and build and release energy through power poses.

Pre-teach: Since the song is so short, it works well to introduce all three moves before the song starts. Tell people that in this song you will play with a bizarre, weird and creepy energy. Have them try the creeping with you – either a low, slow and weird creep around the room, or crawling on hands and feet, knees lifted. Have them try both with you. Show them the waltz and have them do it with you as well, but emphasize that there’s nothing elegant about this – still creepy. Last move is moving through power-poses. Tell them to strike powerful combat power poses: show a few and then have them try it as well using levels, engaging the face and adding confidence and power! Tell them to pose like they are action heroes who just won the fight!

First Move: Is creeping or crawling. Tell people to either go to the floor and start crawling, or begin creeping slowly around the space, lowering the center of gravity. Let your eyes and head lead your slow movements, looking around as you slowly move. Catch eyes with someone as you are passing them. Encourage them to move in with a bizarre energy – whatever that means to them. You can only get it right – play with it and interpret the music in your own way.

Second Move: Is the waltz. Connect people to the down-up-up and cue on 123-123 as well. Once they are connected have them creatively use the space and keep them connected to the style as well. Inspire people to engage in eye contact once in a while.

Third move: is power poses. Connect them to the accents in the music and demonstrate how it can look to go full on! Face involved, strong arms, levels, yelling/shouting – and give them cues like combat poses and action hero moves to get them express it with lots of power.
