Purpose: To explore the meditative flow when dancing one rhythm only.
The song has a long intro, where you can talk about the style of the song, and connect them to the rhythm as it slowly builds.
Below is a script to use as inspiration for your facilitation – and have in mind that observation is key in this song.
You need to really observe your groovers to see what kind of facilitation they need to dance fully.
Intro: This song has just one rhythm which will give you time to really explore all the ways to dance the rhythm. Like a moving meditation.
It’s soft, flowy, smooth, relaxed and has a soft funky beat throughout.
Take some deep breaths. Soften your body.
Listen to the song. And in your own way start to explore the 12-123 rhythm in your body as it builds. Just let your body move to the beat. Could be your shoulders, hips, head. You can’t get it wrong. This is your dance.
First move: 12-123. Now start to put the beat in your feet: 12-123, 12-123. Soft knees and hips. Travel the room and allow yourself to dance it. You can add you arms ad shoulders. You can add your head. Your chest.
It’s soft, smooth and flowy.
Where can you go in the room?
Have you tried moving sideways or backwards?
Have you tried turning as you move? The other way too?
Listen to that soft funky beat – how can you put that rhythm in your body?
Use your movement to lubricate your joint. Like your massaging your body with your dance.
Make it feel good. You can make this your own moving meditation.
You can explore putting the rhythm anywhere in your body. In your chest, your spine, your hips, your head, your arms. Where else can you put the rhythm?
You can travel as you dance the rhythm or stay on the spot and dance it. Have you tried staying on the spot yet?
Play with moving different body parts to the rhythm. You can’t get it wrong.
This is your dance, your space to express yourself. You can only get it right. Your way is the right way.
Add your breath.
Let your body flow with the music. Soft, fluid movements.
How can you dance it with your whole body?
Listen to the music and let it inspire how you dance it.
It’s flowy, funky and smooth.
Breath: Stay on the spot. You can close your eyes if you feel like it. Connect to your breath. Relax your body, soften your shoulders. You can move your body softly or stand still. Softly breathe as you allow your movement to slow down.
