Purpose: To explore the element of freestyle grooving
Pre-teach: We are gonna accent the arms in two sharp moves to the music – four times in row.
Every time you accent your arm, you do it in a new direction.
So try it with me: arm-arm, make it sharp! arm-arm, new place everytime! arm-arm! arm-arm! Play with your levels and let your whole body dance along.
You’ll hear it clearly in the music when this move comes.
First move: two-to-the-side. Step to the beat: side-side. Soften your knees a bit so you can get some bounce in your step. This song is cool, funky and confident – how can you express that in you dance?
Remember you can’t get it wrong in groove – all you have to do is express it your way.
Can you change directions after the two steps to the side?
Can you add some funky arms to your dance?
What would it look like if your head was dancing too?
Can you get your chest and shoulders involved as well?
Show me some attitude in your moves – you own the dancefloor! You were born to dance!
Is there somewhere in the room you haven’t been yet?
Give yourself permission to dance it with confidence and personality – show me YOUR dance. And make it feel really good.
Second move: Arm-arm. Now dance your arms to the beat: arm-arm! Try somewhere new every time. Above you, below you, to the sides. Arm-arm! Play with your levels and directions when you throw your arms. Sharp and fierce!
If you’re standing next to someone, dance it with them!
How fierce can you be?
Third move: Groove out OTS. Now give yourself permission to dance your heart out! Listen to the music – how does this song make you want to move?
You can move your butt, your shoulders, your arms, your head, your chest – maybe you can get your whole body dancing at once?
And what about your face?
Have you tried using your levels?
Can you add some bounce to your dance? Funky, cool and confident!
How can you dance your upper body? Just try it out – how can you move to the music?
What would it feel like to lift up a knee once in a while?
Add your own style and personality to your dance – that’s what makes it awesome!
Make your butt and hips dance!
Your way is the right way – get your groove on and DANCE! No one can do it like you!
No one cares what it looks like – just make it feel gooooood!
