Pre-Teach: The combo
Focus: External
Purpose: To build lower body strength and explore using the voice as part of the dance
***Explicit Language***
Pre-teach: In this song there’s a fun combo where I want you to use your voice. We are gonna walk three then say ’yah!’ three times, and on the fourth time you’re gonna say ’ok!
An everytime you say yah or Ok – say it to the person you meet on the dance floor.
Try it with me: walk-2-3-yah! Walk-2-3-Yah-Walk-2-3-yah-walk-2-3-OK!
First move: two-to-the-side. Alright, first move: two-to-the-side. Put some style and personlity into it and start to travel the room.
Can you add some funk to your dance?
Can you change directions? Maybe backwards?
Go somewhere in the room you haven’t been yet.
How can your arms dance?
Can you tell a story with your hands?
Remember you can’t get it wrong here – dance it your way and have a party in your body!
Show me how your upper body can dance too.
Dance it with some cool and funky attitude.
Second move: the combo. Now 1-2-3-Yah-1-2-3- Yah-1-2-3- Yah-1-2-3- OK! One more time and make sure to tell someone as you pass them.
How loud can you be?
Show me some attitude!
Give yourself permission to have fun with it.
Third move:clap. Now clap with the music. But I want you to really dance your clap – so show me how you clap somewhere new every single time.
You can use your levels.
You can clap under your legs, behind your back – show me all the different ways you can clap!
Can you add some funk and style to it too?
You can even clap on your body, the walls, the floor – take it away!
You can stay on the spot or travel the clap – totally up to you. But what ever you do – DANCE it!
