Adult Facilitator
Pre-Teach: No
Focus: Internal
Purpose: To warm up the body through slow lubricating movements of the joints or to practice the ability to focus the attention inward and tune in to the needs of the body.
Before you put the music on, get them on the spot, feet planted and taking a few breaths shifting the focus inward. They can close their eyes or gently bring a soft gaze to the ground.
Key facilitation points:
We’re going to stay on the spot warming up nice and slow drawing circles with different body parts to lubricate the joints, preparing for bigger movement.
Begin to draw a circle with a body part, such as your head.
Start to add your shoulders, maybe your wrists and fingers.
You can even draw wider circles allowing the arms to reach for the sky.
Change the direction of your movement.
Continue adding more body parts such as hips, knees and ankles.
Try exploring different levels (high, middle and low).
Add lots of breath and relax your movement.
Make it feel good in your body and let yourself dance it.
Let the music inspire how you move, remember you can’t get it wrong!
Your way of moving is the right way.
Guidelines for Personal Song:
This is an opportunity for your participants to do the movements they need to do for their individual body. This is not guided. You just tell them:
This song is for you. It’s a chance for you to tune into your body and do what you need for you. You can do what you would like to this song.
You can dance it, stretch, meditate, massage or whatever your body needs right now. This is not the time to leave, this is not the end of the class.
This is a very important part of the groove experience and time for you to take care of you! So do what you need for you and your body.
You can also say. “Whatever you choose to do, infuse it with your breath and your attention.”
One song is sufficient unless you are facilitating a “therapeutic Groove”, then you may want to use 2 songs.
