Pre-Teach: Yes
Focus: Internal
Purpose: To practice the ability of getting up and down from the floor and exploring creative ways of doing this.
Pre-teach: In this song we are going to explore getting up and down from the floor. And we will play with a dramatic, zombie-like way of doing it. Watch me do it one time to get an idea of the flow:
When you hear the distinct sound in the music you’ll start to slowly melt to the floor – in your own unique way. Once you’re down, lay still eyes open. When the sound appears again slowly peel yourself off the floor and all the way up. Then you slowly move to a new spot in the room, and repeat – but trying new ways to get down and up.
First move: Stare-Melt down-Get-up-walk. First listen to the music – this sound will either take you to the floor or take you up again.
Now start by opening your eyes wide and just stare. Give yourself permission to be dramatic and theatrical – like a zombie walking through the night.
Now as you hear the sound start to melt to the floor. Slowly, and use your hands if you need to. When you are down, stay there until you hear the sound again.
Let the sound peel you off the floor again, all the way to standing and then zombie walk to a new place in the room.
What does your zombie look like?
Give yourself permission to be bizarre and weird
Can you add your face in a bizarre manner?
As you melt to the floor try to explore different ways: melting down to the side maybe, rolling forward or leaning backwards.
Stare as you are lying here, waiting for the sound.
Can you get up in a new way?
How can you add you arms?
How can you play with the zombie vibe?
No one can do it for you – only you know what it feels like to do this in YOUR body
Have you tried adding your arms in a bizarre way?
Is it possible to walk backwards?
Maybe your zombie is dragging one foot? Or have one arm hanging dead on one side?
Maybe you can get down to floor without using your hands?
How bizarrely can you move? Give yourself permission to be playful and theatrical
You can ONLY get it right – just have fun with it – your way is the right way!
Transitions
There is no time code in this song – all you have to do is follow the sound in the music.
At the end you have them laying still on floor, it’s very clear when the music changes into this part of the Groove.
