Coaching Notes:

Start off by having the kids listen to the music – pull out a theme such as zombies or monsters – “Listen to this music, what do you hear? What comes to mind?”
When they give you some suggestions explain that the style is strange and dark and emphasis on CREATIVITY, obscure or weird.
Get them to open their eyes wide and put a “zombie” like look on their face, have them listen for the “melt” chord in the music and have them watch you demo the sequence, encourage the to act strange and weird.
“When you hear the chord in the background of the music I want you to melt to the floor slowly… and MAKE IT WEIRD. When you get down to the floor, lay flat and relax and roll or crawl to a new position, but keep your eyes WIDE.
As you come back up RELAX your neck so your head tilts to the side like a zombie. Now stare at something walk towards it with your eyes open wide”.
Remind your participants that they are DANCING not just getting down to the floor.
You can have participants go down and up with each chord or not, depends on how much space you want to them to explore between the sequences.
If you find your participants aren’t exploring the movement fully, offer one or two creative suggestions such as, “Have you tried spinning slightly as you melt? or
“This time try to rise with your shoulder leading the movement.”, “Can you go down and up without your hands ever touching the floor?”
Then let them resume exploring the movement on their own.
